ABOUT TAKUMIX
Bridging Two Career Worlds
Takumix exists for the talented UK-based students and graduates who chose Japanese — and for the Japanese companies that need them.
OUR PURPOSE
Mission & Vision
A clear purpose drives everything we do — from how we coach candidates to how we work with Japanese companies.
— MISSION
Connect outstanding UK talent with Japanese companies and enable careers that last, not just hires that happen.
We focus on the long-term success of every candidate we coach. Our success is measured not by placement counts but by retention — six months, twelve months, and beyond.
— VISION
To be the most trusted UK–Japan career bridge — known for depth, honesty, and genuine cultural fluency.
We aim to be the first name UK Japanese-language graduates think of when they consider a career in Japan, and the first call Japanese companies make when hiring from the UK.
THE MARKET GAP
Why a UK–Japan Specialist Service Is Needed
A specific gap exists between what UK Japanese-language graduates need and what existing services provide.
Around 14,646 people study Japanese in the UK, with 6,273 learning at universities. Of those, an estimated 40% express interest in working in Japan after graduation. That’s roughly 2,500 candidates a year — yet none of the major recruitment services are built specifically for them.
EXISTING SERVICES
Generalist recruitment for any bilingual candidate
Job listings only — no preparation support
No specialist understanding of UK Japanese-language graduates
Cultural and interview gaps go unaddressed
No follow-up after placement
Takumix Approach
Specialised in UK Japanese-language graduates
Education-led: coaching from preparation to arrival
Founded by graduates of UK Japanese-language programmes
Cultural fluency and interview training
Six-month retention as a published quality KPI
Takumix is the first service designed specifically for the UK-Japanese-language graduate × Japanese-company intersection — a market both large enough to matter and underserved enough to require building from scratch.
WHY WE EXIST
A Service Built from Lived Experience
Many UK students dream of building careers in Japan. Few know how to actually start — and fewer still find services that genuinely understand both worlds.
Both founders are 2024 graduates of the University of East Anglia, where they studied alongside a community of Japanese-language students wrestling with exactly this question: How do I turn my Japanese skills into a real career?
We saw classmates with strong Japanese ability struggle through unfamiliar interview formats, generic recruitment processes, and visa systems no one had explained to them. We saw Japanese companies looking for exactly this profile but unable to find structured channels to reach UK candidates.
Takumix exists to close that gap — not by replicating what generalist agencies already do, but by providing what’s actually missing: structured preparation, cultural fluency, and a curated channel for UK candidates to reach Japanese employers.
OUR FOUNDATION
Built on Strong Networks
Three pillars give Takumix the foundation to deliver on its mission.
UK Japanese-Language Community
Founder networks span UEA, SOAS, Cardiff, Edinburgh, Newcastle and other UK universities with Japanese-language programmes — providing direct access to candidates from the start.
Japanese Professional Experience
Real lived experience working in Japanese-language environments — including a multi-year role at a Japanese restaurant</strong> in the UK and direct exposure to Japanese business culture</strong>.
JF Recognition
Both founders graduated from UEA — recognised by the Japan Foundation as a member of the JF さくらネットワーク and a core institution for UK Japanese-language education.
Recognised by the Japan Foundation
The Japan Foundation’s さくらネットワーク is a global network of institutions recognised as centres of Japanese-language education. UEA is one of only a handful of UK universities to hold this recognition. It means we don’t approach the UK Japanese-language community from the outside — we come from inside it.
